Management Scholarships While the main focus of the AGA is on business, it also has an interest in cultural and educational matters. One feature is the annual Fellowship which supports a young Australian to visit Germany to study the language and pursue special interests.

1.The Fellowship is made available jointly by the Australian German Association and the Goethe-Institut.
2.This annual award is available to Australian citizens only.
3.The candidate should have excellent academic tertiary qualifications and the prospect of a promising career in business, law, science, political studies or arts.

Management Scholarships Melting alpine glaciers are a secondary source of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) has been filed, and incorporated into the glacier and are now on the environment caused by accelerated melting due to global warming returned.Management Scholarships an interdisciplinary project consists of three related work packages, each the subject of a doctoral thesis. In the first part of the work, POPs in the glaciers of the Alps are measured, are determined in the second package, the ice flow and transport processes of POPs in the glacier. Their work is part of the second work plan, which is a complete inventory of the ice and pore water in some glaciers in the Swiss Alps. The Management Scholarships project includes a page field experiments hands on glaciers and on the other computer modeling of ice flow in glaciers. This project offers a unique opportunity for a PhD Management Scholarships student of experience in various scientific disciplines to win. The project partners have a diverse work environment and challenging. Equipment for field tests and computer are available, and links to international research groups are well established.

We are looking for a highly motivated scientist interested in challenging work, keen to develop computer models, efficient in interacting with different research teams, and enthusiastic about the high Alpine environment. Scholarship Description: The School of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment at Nottingham Trent University has an ambitious development strategy which allows us to offer an exciting opportunity for a PhD Studentship. The studentships will pay UK/EU fees and provide a maintenance stipend linked to the RCUK rate (£13,590 per annum for 2011/12) for up to three years. The need to enhance understanding of human behaviour in order to progress towards sustainable patterns of consumption is well recognised, as is evidence that design of our possessions and surroundings locks us into particular forms of behaviour. This is a cross-disciplinary studentship involving research into how people use their possessions and the built environment with regard to sustainability and the implications of this for design practice. One of its key elements will be to relate knowledge in sustainable architecture, sustainable fashion and sustainable product design.
Our past research has found evidence of inconsistent behaviour among consumers with regard to their influence upon the environmental impact of different products. Further research is needed to explain these inconsistencies and the University’s Sustainable Consumption Research Group is currently planning a series of cross-disciplinary seminars. These will explore the use of buildings, clothing, household goods and vehicles and consider factors that may lead them to be used in a sustainable manner and reasons for inconsistencies in user behaviour. Other research at the University has proposed a theoretical case for addressing the effect of the material form of products on people’s behaviour. The University’s OPEN Research Group (Objects, Practices, Experiences and Networks) is currently running a series of events through which different perspectives on materials and materiality are being explored. The output of these two initiatives will underpin this studentship, which is intended to enhance understanding of pro-environmental behaviour change.

Applications are invited for a three-year PhD studentship in the field of European Studies in the School of Languages, Literatures and Cultural Studies at Trinity College Dublin. European Studies is represented in Trinity College through undergraduate (BA) and postgraduate (MPhil) degree programmes which are wide-ranging and multidisciplinary, addressing the history, cultures, languages and politics of European nations. The Centre for European Studies (http://www.tcd.ie/European_Studies/) is in the process of building a stronger research profile, with the establishment of a research centre as a key component of this development. The creation of a PhD studentship is one part of this process, and will allow the successful candidate the opportunity to conduct research on an aspect of European cultural history (understood broadly) from an inter-disciplinary perspective.

Comparative (and/or transnational) approaches and cross-disciplinary projects are particularly welcome. Preference may be given to candidates focusing on Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe in modern times (19^th and 20^th century) and addressing one of the following topics: rituals, cults and nation-building in modern political regimes; symbolic politics and propaganda in Communist systems; the construction, transmission and popular perception of myths and ideologies; the Sovietisation process in Eastern Europe after the Second World War. However, any application that comes under the remit of European Studies will be considered, provided that the Centre for European Studies has the expertise to supervise the topic.

The AISSR and the Department of Sociology and Anthropology are looking for two PhD candidates who will participate in the research project ‘The Globalization of High Culture: How Markets for Contemporary Art Develop in Brazil, Russia, India and China'.

The PhD candidates will participate in a five-year comparative research project which is financed by a VIDI-grant of the Dutch Science Foundation (NWO). The project studies globalization of contemporary art markets from the perspective of economic and cultural sociology in Brazil, Russia, India and China. The two PhD projects will focus on the institutional architecture of art markets in these countries; which institutions have been adopted from Western markets and how have they been transformed? How have local institutions emerged and developed to select, market and value contemporary art? In answering these questions, PhD project A focuses on China, PhD project B on the Russian and the Indian markets for contemporary art. A significant part of both projects will consist of on-site empirical research, collecting both qualitative and quantitative data.

The department of Economic History offers two positions in the doctoral studies program/Third Level programmes. Within the doctoral studies program it is required that the student formulate and conduct a PhD project and take the required courses, according to an individual study-plan.

The doctoral student’s research should be conducted within the department’s research profiles, the Department of Economic History. The doctoral student should be permanently involved in the research environment at the department, such as actively participating in seminars and participating in other activities.

Ability to participate in seminars and to teach in Swedish or in English is a requirement. Applicants whose first language is not Swedish has the opportunity to take courses in Swedish. The applicant is expected to have reached a sufficient level of language knowledge to be able to participate in seminars and other activities that are undertaken in Swedish one year after being accepted to the doctoral studies.

Requirements
A position as a doctoral student requires that the applicant is admitted to the doctoral studies program. To be eligible for doctoral studies the applicant shall fulfill the following requirements:

General entry requirements (according to the HEO)
In order to be eligible for doctoral studies students must have
1) completed an academic degree at the Second Level,
2) completed courses equivalent to at least 240 Higher Education Credits (HECs), of which 60 HECs at the Second Level, or,

Selection process
The ability of the applicant to fulfill and profit from the doctoral studies will be of importance in the appointment process. Criteria for the selection process will be:

independence in analysis and planning of earlier work,

documented ability to work within given time frames,
methodological and scientific awareness,
the ability to have a critical perspective to the research material,

The Microbial Engineering Programme at Risø National Laboratory DTU (ECO) offers a three years PhD position starting October 2010. The project Title is "A Study of Algae Symbiotic Communities with the Aim to Increase biomass and biodiesel Production".

The Project

Through photosynthesis some algae convert CO2 to lipids which can be converted to biodiesel. Use of biodiesel will reduce CO2 emission and algae cultivation may be part of waste water treatment. Today algae farms are producing ca. 10,000 tons of biomass per year but for biodiesel production more efficiency and lower production costs are required. Many micro algae are dependent on or benefits from symbiosis-like relationships with bacteria. Thus, algae biomass production is more efficient in mixed microbial communities.

It has been demonstrated that some algae from bacteria receive, vitamins or siderphores - small organic molecules that tightly bind iron and thereby increase its solubility. The interactions between algae and bacteria are poorly understood. The present project intends to increase knowledge on the mechanisms whereby microalgae benefit from living in microbial communities.

The PhD student will work together with technicians and scientist in a well organized and highly motivated research atmosphere. We offer in depth training in physiology and microbiology.

Candidates should have a master's degree in biology or biochemistry or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to the master's degree. We seek an energetic and skilled candidate with strong interest microalgae and microbial physiology. The candidate must have well documented skills in microbiology and molecular biology.

The Division of Preservation and Access of the National Endowment for the Humanities will be accepting applications for grants in its Research and Development program. The new 2010 guidelines, including sample proposal narratives, are now available. Grants in this program support projects that address major challenges in preserving or providing access to humanities collections and resources. These challenges include the need to find better ways to preserve materials of critical importance to the nation’s cultural heritage—from fragile artifacts and manuscripts to analog recordings and digital assets subject to technological obsolescence—and to develop advanced modes of searching, discovering, and using such materials. Maximum awards are $350,000 for up to three years.

Eligible activities include:

- the development of technical standards, best practices, and tools for preserving and creating access to humanities collections;
- the exploration of more effective scientific and technical methods of preserving humanities collections;
- the development of automated procedures and computational tools to integrate, analyze, and repurpose humanities data in disparate online resources; and
- the investigation and testing of new ways of providing digital access to humanities materials that are not easily digitized using current methods.

NEH especially encourages applications that address the following topics:

- Digital Preservation: how to preserve digital humanities materials, including born-digital materials, for which there is no analog counterpart;

True story. I had a meeting with family for the first time. We have the traditional topics such as the visit of the campus, test scores and grade point average.

And then there was this: "Can you help me," college-U 'and is a profit? "I gave my usual answer:" Unless there is a building with your name on it. "

I did not know that the usual smile, or eyes. Instead, I Be ", yes, the library is named after our family." I tried to give back to apologize for my sarcasm.

Fortunately, they have found it funny. In this case, the answer is "yes," the student over several generations of heritage and a "development" theme. This does not guarantee acceptance, but the application must be thoughtfully examined.

Legacy opponents argue that students are missing, but the provision of connection will receive credentials to preferential treatment. Universities say that the legacy applicants are generally stronger than the general pool of candidates. Rarely admit a guarantor for an heir.

The Yale Alumni Magazine, are accepted only 30 percent of applicants legacy. Bequests in general, more attention to the admission process, which is usually a bye in the first round and their applications will be carefully evaluated.

If the applicant is a legacy and a family to make regular donations to the substance has (non-alumni gifts of $ 25) for several years, the students can expect some extra attention for most of the schools. Universities rely on donations.

Student Column: Your mother is on Facebook

They know vaguely that a weekend party a few years ago, who remembers only the images that the surface on Facebook? Imagine that your parents had been. Well, that's me.

Adult relatives who invade our personal world of Face Book is a sad development, which has in recent years more and more parents need to find an online profile to keep in touch with their children. I'm sure they feel they belong. I think they a nuisance.

I remember the first days of Facebook? It began as a top-secret club, if you need a secret code, your university e-mail) (and password (your choice) to participate. If you access the Internet, the way you can communicate with others - students.

Now Facebook has a free-for-all so connected that only one of which, unfortunately, our parents.

Although it seems at first sight, has Facebook as a food staple in the social life of students is as important to many people, their online profile, as their personal appearances. So, as mothers ashamed to write wall posts or photo to read a negative reaction, much more from us.

Not necessarily throw our over-the-Hill for their family clumsy and questionable behavior on Facebook, this is a generation gap. Most of us have never lived in a family who have no computer, which we grew up learning and adaptation in line label. For example, we know not, as Facebook for people who have never met in person not too painful or comments about pictures of our not-so-good friends. Some parents do not seem that the memo.

I must admit that my mother has a number of positive results on Facebook had. First, it forces me to review my online profile to ensure that the appropriate social potential employers (and) the lay public. There are also some pictures, comments and jokes of the procedure, although it may require government action should be recognized, are still private to my friends and I will be seen and not necessarily those of my parents.

The painful aspect of all this is the lack of privacy invasion. College is a time of personal growth and the creation of independence, so your parents know you through your Facebook profile, at any time of day, it's all too similar to George Orwell's "1984" - which he really feels like "Big Brother is watching.

I know, Facebook is now a multi-one million U.S. dollars and business will never be like it was a few years ago. It's not that I do not appreciate Keeping up with my mother - some of the messages, posts and walls are very sweet. I just want peace to return to the days when we could hold a conversation, do not contain the phrase: "So I saw on Facebook ..."

UCL Alumni Scholarship (previously UCL Futures Scholarship)

Important Information for all Applicants

The UCL Alumni Scholarship aims to enable and encourage those who have gained a UCL undergraduate degree to pursue full-time Master's degree studies at UCL. This award has been made possible thanks to the kind donations of UCL alumni, staff, former staff and friends.

Eligibility Requirements

Candidates can be from any country, but must

have successfully completed or be currently completing undergraduate degree studies at UCL
be intending to pursue full-time Master's degree studies at UCL and, by the date of the scholarship application deadline, hold an offer of admission (conditional or unconditional) to a Master's degree programme at UCL

Value, Terms, and Conditions

The value of the scholarship is £10,000.
The scholarship is tenable for one year only.
The UCL Alumni Scholarship may be held alongside other scholarships, studentships, awards, or bursaries. The amount of the UCL award may be adjusted depending on the total value of other funds received by the student.
Scholarship recipients are obliged to inform the UCL Student Funding Office immediately of any other funding they are awarded toward their UCL Master’s degree studies, before or subsequent to the UCL Alumni Scholarship award.
Scholarships cannot be transferred to another institution, nor deferred to a later year.
The scholarship will first be applied to the recipient’s fees, with any remainder payable to the recipient in equal instalments throughout the academic year towards maintenance.
Scholarship payments are only made if the recipient is fully enrolled in a Master’s degree programme at UCL.
Within 2 months of the end date of the UCL Alumni Scholarship, recipients are required to submit to UCL a letter of gratitude to the donor/s (To Whom It May Concern). The letter should comment on the impact of the scholarship on the recipient’s education and how the award has benefited them. It should also include details of proposed career plans and any career developments.
All scholarship and awards are subject to the provisions of the General Regulations for Scholarships, Awards, Bursaries, Prizes and Medals.

Application Deadline and Procedure

Eligible candidates must complete the UCL Alumni Scholarship application form, and submit it – along with supporting documents specified in the form – to the UCL Student Funding Office by 15th March.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Potential candidates must ensure that they submit a full scholarship application by the deadline irrespective of whether an offer of admission has reached them or not. At/after 15th March the UCL Student Funding Office will check UCL systems to confirm whether the scholarship applicant holds an offer of admissions to one of the eligible UCL programmes and on what date that offer was made. Scholarships applicants without an admissions offer at the time of the scholarship deadline and for an eligible programme will be excluded from the competition at this point. It is for this reason that we recommend you apply for admission as early as possible, and submit your scholarship application by 15th March.

Late or incomplete applications will not be considered for a scholarship.

Selection

The scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic excellence; however, financial need will also be taken into consideration.

The scholarship will be awarded by the Council upon the recommendation of an academic selection panel.

Notification of Results

Successful and reserve candidates can expect to be notified by email by mid-/late-May.

We are unable to inform unsuccessful applicants. If you do not hear from the UCL Student Funding Office by the end of May, your application has been unsuccessful.
